Eagles Jump To No. 5 In Midwest Region Rankings

The Ashland University baseball team is ranked No. 5 in the third and final release of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional rankings it was announced on Wednesday (May 9) afternoon.

The top eight teams in the region, including the tournament champions of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic (GLIAC), Great Lakes Valley (GLVC) and Great Midwest Athletic (G-MAC) Conferences, will advance to the NCAA Tournament.

The field will be announced on Sunday (May 13) at 10 p.m. on NCAA.com.

The Eagles (30-18) are looking to qualify for their third NCAA Tournament in the last four years. In 2016, the Eagles were the No. 6 seed and won their first two games before dropping their next two. Three seasons ago, Ashland was also the No. 6 seed and advanced to the regional championship game.

Ashland is coming off a week in which it went 4-1 with a win against No. 4-ranked Ohio Dominican and winning three of four games against Tiffin. 

The Eagles open GLIAC Tournament play on Thursday (May 10) at 6 p.m. against Wayne State in Detroit.
