Bewley Dominates As Eagles Run-Rule Bobcats

Sophomore right-hander Perry Bewley tossed six innings of one-hit ball and the Ashland University baseball team pounded out 18 hits as the Eagles run-ruled West Virginia Wesleyan, 13-0, in seven innings in Kissimmee, Fla. on Tuesday (March 5).

Bewley gave up a first-inning single and a second-inning walk, but was otherwise untouched as he rolled through the Bobcats lineup. He finished with 10 strikeouts and now has 19 strikeouts in nine innings this season. 

Bewley retired the last 15 men he faced with 10 coming via strikeout.

Offensively, the Eagles (6-1) scored four runs in the first, five in the fourth and four in the fifth.

Sophomore Logan Moss was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and four RBI, while junior Jason Swope went 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBI.

Sophomore Austin Eifrid, senior Matt Littrell and freshman Seth Schroeder had two hits apiece for the Eagles, who out-hit the Bobcats, 18-2.

Senior right-hander Ryan Curtis pitched a scoreless seventh inning. 

As a team, the Eagles have compiled a 2.66 ERA in seven games in the early season. Opponents are hitting just .217 against Ashland pitching.

The Eagles will continue their Florida trip on Wednesday (March 6) when they take on the University of the Sciences at 1:30 p.m. in Kissimmee.
