Smith Wins GLIAC Player of the Week Award

Ashland University sophomore utility player Dillan Smith was named the GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week the league office announced on Tuesday (March 12) morning.

Smith is the first AU position player to win the award this season after junior Chance Hitchcock and senior Devin Peters won the last two GLIAC Pitcher of the Week honors. Current assistant coach Connor Barleben was the last Eagle to be named GLIAC Player of the Week on April 9, 2018.

Smith led Ashland in all three slash categories, hitting .533 (8-for-15) with a .579 on-base percentage and an .867 slugging percentage as the Eagles went 5-2 on the week during their Florida trip.

He also led the Eagles with seven RBI, picking up at least one in all six games he played last week. Smith also had three multi-hit games with three doubles and a triple.

For the season, Smith is hitting .462 with nine RBI. He has reached base at a .515 clip and slugged .654.

The Eagles (9-3) are scheduled to play Tiffin on Wednesday (March 13) at 3 p.m. in their home opener at Donges Field.
