Slavik Wins GLIAC Pitcher of the Week Award

Ashland University senior Chris Slavik was named the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week the league office announced on Monday (April 8) afternoon.

He is the third Eagle to win GLIAC Pitcher of the Week honors this season after junior Chance Hitchcock (Feb. 26) and senior Devin Peters (March 5), who also claimed the honor. It is Slavik's second career weekly award after winning it May 7, 2018.

Slavik went 2-0 with a save in three relief appearances last week. He did not allow a hit or a run across five innings and struck out six. The right-hander has not allowed hit in his last seven innings overall.

The Powell, Ohio native is 7-0 on the season with a 2.52 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 25 innings.

Slavik earned the win on both ends of a doubleheader sweep of Davenport on Tuesday, striking out three in 1 2/3 perfect innings in Game 1. He followed it up with a 1-2-3 eighth inning in Game 2 to preserve a 7-7 tie before the Eagles won on Michael Rogers' grand slam in the bottom half.

In Friday's 4-1 win over Saginaw Valley, Slavik threw the final 2 1/3 innings without allowing a hit and striking out three to earn his third save of the season.

Slavik, the Eagles' closer, leads the GLIAC in wins and is tied for second in the league in saves.

The Eagles (26-4, 10-1 GLIAC), ranked No. 15 in the NCBWA poll, will continue their lengthy road trip on Tuesday (April 9) with a trip to Walsh at 3 p.m. GLIAC play resumes with a four-game set at Wayne State beginning Friday (April 12).
