Eagles Fall To Timberwolves, Split Series

The Ashland University baseball lost the final game of their series at Northwood, 16-3, on Sunday (April 28) afternoon in Midland, Mich.

The Eagles (34-9, 14-6 GLIAC) and Timberwolves (29-16, 14-10 GLIAC) split the four-game series after Ashland earned both wins in Saturday's doubleheader.

Ashland right-hander Josh Stover got off to a solid start on Sunday, facing the minimum through the first three innings.

Meanwhile, the Eagles sneaked in a run in the third on an attempted double steal. Senior Matt Littrell was thrown out going to second, but sophomore Logan Moss crossed the plate before the out to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Ashland scored two more in the fourth as junior Michael Rogers singled and scored on a double by sophomore Micah Allen. A groundout moved Allen to third before junior Garret Robberts ripped an RBI single to left.

Stover escaped a bases loaded jam in the fourth inning before the Timberwolves on the board with two in the fifth.

Things unraveled for the Eagles in the sixth. Northwood loaded the bases with one out for Travis Janes, who drew a walk to tie the game at 3. Brooks Ullery followed with a bases-clearing double to give the hosts a 6-3 lead. The Timberwolves added three more runs in the inning to stretch their lead to 9-3.

Northwood scored seven more runs across the seventh and eighth innings to provide the final margin.
