AU Baseball Recognized At Clippers Game Aug. 6

The Ashland University baseball team will be recognized at Ashland University Alumni Night on Aug. 6 prior to the Columbus Clippers game at Huntington Park.

A member of the Eagles will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the game, which starts at 7:05 p.m. against the Pawtucket Red Sox. The ceremonial first pitch is set for 6:40 p.m.

The Eagles will be honored for their qualification to the 2019 NCAA Division II World Series iN Cary, N.C., the sixth such appearance in program history. AU won the GLIAC regular season and tournament titles, and went 9-0 in postseason elimination games prior to bowing out of the World Series where the Eagles went 1-2.

Ashland, under 22nd-year head coach John Schaly, matched the program record for wins in a season (48) and also set new marks for strikeouts (537) and consecutive wins (17).

Senior relief pitcher Chris Slavik earned first team All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association, third team honors from D2CCA and honorable mention All-America honors from the NCBWA, which also named junior designated hitter Carson Mittermaier to the honorable mention All-America list.
