Former Eagle Warren Promoted To MLB's Mariners

Former Ashland University pitcher Art Warren has been promoted to the major leagues with the Seattle Mariners, the club officially announced on Tuesday (Sept. 10).

Warren was selected by the Mariners in the 23rd Round of the 2015 MLB June Draft and quickly progressed his way through the organization's farm system.

He will wear No. 43 and will be in uniform for Tuesday's series opener against the Cincinnati Reds at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

Warren spent all of the 2019 season with the Double-A Arkansas Travelers, posting a 1.71 ERA and notching 15 saves in 29 appearances. He struck out 41 and walked just 13 in 31 2/3 innings while holding opponents to a .202 average. Warren has not pitched at the Triple-A level and will move straight to the major leagues.

He pitched two scoreless innings in the Travelers' five-game series in the Texas League semifinals.

Warren pitched for one season (2015) with the Eagles, going 5-4 with a 3.88 ERA in 60 1/3 innings. He struck out 52 and allowed just one home run that season as the Eagles advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Across five minor league seasons, the right-hander is 18-6 with a 2.86 ERA and 233 strikeouts in 229 2/3 innings.

When he appears in an MLB game, he will become the third AU player to reach that level, joining Gene Stechschulte (St. Louis Cardinals, 2000-02) and Ken Kravec (Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs, 1975-82).

Warren is currently rated as the No. 26 prospect in the Mariners' organization by MLB Pipeline and has been as high as No. 8 in those rankings.
