Three Fortnite Duos Qualify For $25,000 Collegiate Starleague Championship

Three Ashland University Fortnite duos have qualified for the Collegiate Starleague Championship which will be contested Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 7-8). 

The championships will consist of four games with two being played Saturday and two on Sunday at 4 and 5 p.m. each day. It is essentially the national championships for collegiate Fortnite

The teams will compete for a total prize pool $25,000 with the winning duo getting $10,000, second place earning $5,000, third winning $2,500, fourth winning $1,000, and so on.

Alec Mueller and Chris Smith are Ashland's highest placed duo, finishing fourth in North East Region #2. River Wheeler and Mikah Juma were sixth in North East Region #3 and Brant McAdams and Lucas Ratcliff picked up eighth place in North East Region #1.

The Fortnite teams qualified for the playoffs based on their regular season results.

"The team has been supporting each other the whole way," said AU esports head coach Josh Buchanan. "They've put in the time and effort each practice. Whether the games this weekend go our way or not, our team has a lot to be proud of."

The duos will compete on the same map with cumulative scores taken over the four competitions determining the final results.

Other teams in the tournament will include, among others, Penn State, St. Clair College, DePaul, Arizona State and East Carolina.
