Former Ashland University standout Jamie Meder (66) makes his National Football League regular-season debut Dec. 28 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Two-time Division II All-American defensive lineman Jamie Meder became the first former Ashland University football player to play in a regular-season game for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday (Dec. 28) in Baltimore against the Ravens.

The 6-foot-3, 295-pound rookie saw time in a reserve role in the 20-10 Browns loss on Sunday, beginning midway through the first quarter. In early-down and short-yardage/goal-line situations mostly as a nose tackle, Meder finished with one solo tackle. He was briefly shaken up during the second quarter, but returned before halftime.

Meder was promoted by the Browns from the practice squad on Saturday (Dec. 27). He was signed by the Browns to their practice squad on Nov. 11, and has been there after spending the first 10 weeks of the regular season on the Ravens' practice squad. Meder was released by the Ravens on Nov. 10.

Meder originally signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent, but was released on the team's final cut on Labor Day Weekend. In four preseason games with Baltimore, he saw action in 54 plays (47 on defense, seven on special teams) and recorded four total tackles (two solos, two assists) and a pass breakup.

Meder was a two-time All-American, including a first-team American Football Coaches Association citation in 2013, for the Eagles. He was a four-time first-team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection, was the GLIAC Freshman of the Year in 2010 and the league's Defensive Lineman of the Year in both 2012 and 2013.

In four seasons at Ashland, Meder recorded 247 total tackles (96 solos), 14 sacks and 35 tackles for loss.
