A pair of Ashland University senior football players – offensive lineman Jonathan Cipa and defensive end Chase Hoobler – are members of the 2016 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, the NFF announced on Wednesday (April 27).
Cipa was a four-year starter along the offensive line at right guard, left tackle and left guard for the Eagles, and earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honorable mention in 2015. He is a three-time member of the GLIAC Football All-Academic Team, and has a 3.34 cumulative grade-point average.
Hoobler was a two-year starter at defensive end for AU after transferring from Indiana, and twice earned All-GLIAC first-team laurels. Hoobler, who was a member of the GLIAC Football All-Academic Excellence Team in 2015 and will be honored at the annual Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the NFF's Scholar-Athlete Banquet on Tuesday, March 8, at LaCentre Banquet Facility in Westlake, sports a cumulative GPA of 3.73.
Qualifications for membership in the NFF Hampshire Honor Society include being a starter or a significant contributor in one's last year of eligibility (or a senior who has declared for the NFL Draft) at an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III or an NAIA college or university; achieving a 3.2 cumulative GPA throughout entire course of undergraduate study and meeting all NCAA/NAIA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.
The NFF Hampshire Honor Society, in its 10th year, set a new record for players honored with 868 in 2016.
