THE TURNING POINT: A touchdown pass from junior quarterback Travis Tarnowski to redshirt freshman wide receiver Stanley Jackson Jr. with 8:38 left in the first quarter to put Ashland on the board.

STAT OF THE GAME: Ashland broke the school record for team rushing yards in a game with 477.

It was a stat-sheet-stuffing kind of day for No. 11-ranked Ashland University's football team.

Playing its second non-conference game of 2016 on Saturday (Oct. 22) afternoon at Kentucky Wesleyan, the Eagles defeated the Panthers, 70-14, to improve to 7-1 overall. KWC is 1-7.

Ashland set a new offensive single-game program record on Saturday. With 477 rushing yards, the Eagles broke the previous mark of 447 at home against Otterbein on Sept. 26, 1970.

Saturday's game was the third time the Eagles have scored at least 70 points in a game, and ties for the second most in a game in program history. This also marks the first time AU has scored at least 60 points in back-to-back contests since Nov. 3 and 10, 2007.

Ashland got the scoring against the Panthers going just 6:22 into the game on a 22-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Travis Tarnowski to redshirt freshman wide receiver Stanley Jackson Jr. With 1:31 left in the opening quarter, freshman tailback Keishaun Sims capped off a 99-yard drive with a 34-yard touchdown run.

A four-touchdown second quarter started with a 22-yard touchdown run by Tarnowski, and kept going with a Tarnowski 33-yard scoring strike to sophomore wide receiver Kamaron Green, a 49-yard scoring scamper by senior tailback Vance Settlemire and a Tarnowski-to-Green 20-yard score.

Four more AU touchdowns were scored in the second half – a 54-yard scamper by Sims, runs of 17 and 21 yards by redshirt freshman tailback Luke Ogi and a 1-yard run by sophomore tailback Andrew Vaughn.

Tarnowski was 11-for-17 for 207 yards and three touchdowns passing. Three Eagles - Sims (six carries for 133 yards), Settlemire (10 for 113) and Vaughn (nine for 107) - each ran for more than 100 yards, while Ogi added 70 yards on eight totes.

Ashland finished the day with 693 total yards on offense.

Defensively, the Eagles kept the Panthers to eight rushing yards. Senior defensive end Zach Leftenant led the way with seven total tackles and three tackles for loss, while senior stud Adam Wallace had two of Ashland's four sacks.

UP NEXT: Back to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. at Michigan Tech (2-5, 2-5).
