The honors continue to pile up for Ashland University junior tight end Adam Shaheen, as he has earned first-team College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America honors in NCAA Division II.

Shaheen, a 2015 CoSIDA second-team Academic All-America and a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, finished the 2016 season with 57 catches for 867 yards and a school-record/D-II tight end single-season record 16 touchdown receptions. He leads all Division II tight ends in all three categories, and continues to lead all tight ends at all NCAA levels in TD grabs.

A Finance major, Shaheen sports a 3.80 cumulative grade-point average.

In addition to the two CoSIDA academic honors this fall, Shaheen also has been named first-team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and a nominee for the Harlon Hill Trophy, awarded to the Division II football Player of the Year. On Oct. 10, he became the first tight end in GLIAC history to win the conference's Offensive Player of the Week award.

Shaheen is the AU football program's first first-team Academic All-American since defensive back Donnie Dottei in 2012.
