Ashland University senior inside linebacker Brandon Gency has been named a nominee for the 2016 Cliff Harris Award.
The 2016 award will be the fourth Cliff Harris Award, presented annually to the nation's top small-college (NCAA Division II/III, NAIA) defensive player.
In 11 games this fall, Gency led the Eagles with 76 total tackles, 43 solo tackles and 11½ tackles for loss, while adding 2½ sacks, two forced fumbles, a 39-yard fumble-return touchdown, an interception and three pass breakups.
Earlier this offseason, Gency earned second-team All-Super Region 4 honors from the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) and first-team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference recognition.
