A 2016 season filled with honors for Ashland University junior tight end Adam Shaheen became even more so on Thursday (Jan. 26) morning.

Shaheen is a first-teamer on the 2016 D2Football.com All-America Team. This honor adds to Shaheen's long 2016 list, which includes being named first-team NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-America, first-team American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches' All-America, D2CCA and Don Hansen first-team All-Super Region 4, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) first-team Academic All-America, CoSIDA first-team Academic All-District, All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first-team and a Harlon Hill Trophy (D-II Player of the Year) nominee.

On Oct. 10, 2016, Shaheen also was the first tight end in GLIAC history to win the conference's Offensive Player of the Week award.

Shaheen, who earlier in January announced his was forgoing his senior season to enter the 2017 National Football League draft, caught 57 passes for 867 yards and 16 touchdowns. The 16 touchdown catches set a new Ashland program single-season record, as well as a new NCAA Division II single-season record for tight ends.

The D2Football.com All-America team is selected by input from the D2Football.com staff, sports information directors, coaches and scouts from across the country.

In the final D2Football.com poll, Ashland (9-2) finished 15th. The Eagles were 19th in the final AFCA Division II Coaches' Top 25 poll.
