Ashland University senior linebacker Zach Bernhard has earned a spot as a member of the 2017 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, as the NFF and the College Hall of Fame released the list on Wednesday (April 5).

Bernhard is one of 1,089 players from 297 schools to qualify for the honor, bestowed upon college football players who have maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher, who meet all NCAA/NAIA-mandated progress toward graduation and was a starter or significant contributor in his last year of eligibility.

In 2016, Bernhard, as a backup and special-teamer who started late in the season, recorded 25 total tackles (18 solo), four tackles for loss and a sack. He was named to the 2016 Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team in September, and was a semifinalist for the NFF's 2016 William V. Campbell Trophy.

Bernhard has a 3.73 postgraduate GPA in the MBA program in Heath Care Management, and finished his undergrad work with a 3.61 GPA in Biochemistry.
