Earlier in the week, Ashland University senior quarterback/punter Travis Tarnowski was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

Thanks to D2Football.com, Tarnowski also has a national kicking game award, as the Web site has named him the NCAA Division II national Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in Ashland's 20-3 win over then-No. 2-ranked Ferris State on Saturday (Sept. 23) night at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field.

Tarnowski punted nine times for a 31.6-yard average, both gross and net, and landed six punts inside the FSU 20-yard line and another one on the 20. The six boots inside the 20 landed at the 18, 5, 13, 13, 11 and 13.

Ashland (3-1 overall, 2-0 GLIAC), ranked in the Top 25 in three national polls – No. 20 by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), No. 9 by D2Football.com and No. 4 by HERO Sports – will go on the road on Saturday (Sept. 30) at noon to take on Davenport (0-4, 0-3).
