For four years, Ashland University senior quarterback Travis Tarnowski has put up some impressive numbers.
Perhaps the most impressive of those statistics has come in the first five games of the 2017 season – zero.
This fall, Tarnowski is leading the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in both touchdown passes (13) and passing yards (1,205), and is close to the conference's top passing efficiency mark (168.0). But the number that pops off the stat sheet is Tarnowski's zero interceptions in 137 pass attempts.
Going back to the end of the 2016 campaign, Tarnowski has thrown 162 consecutive passes without a pick. In those 162 passes, he has thrown for 18 touchdowns and 1,458 yards.
Tarnowski is Ashland's all-time leader in touchdown passes (93), passing yards (9,482) and total offense yards (9,766).
2017 Defense Adding To Impressive Resume
In Saturday's (Sept. 30) 38-0 win at Davenport, the Eagle defense recorded its first road shutout since Nov. 12, 1994. And the 45-yard interception-return touchdown by senior whip Toney Peters was Ashland's first pick-six in nearly three full years (Oct. 18, 2014).
During Ashland's four-game winning streak, Ashland's "D" has allowed just 38 points, yielded 3.0 yards per carry, forced five turnovers and collected nine sacks and 27 tackles for loss.
In back-to-back games, the Eagles have given up just three points – the program's best two-game mark since back-to-back shutouts on Oct. 30-Nov. 6, 1993.
Vaughn Extends Rushing TD Streak
Against the Panthers, junior tailback Andrew Vaughn recorded his fifth 100-yard rushing game (103), and he also extended his consecutive games streak with a rushing touchdown to four.
The last Eagle tailback to have a streak as long as Vaughn's was Vance Settlemire, who scored seven rushing TDs over four games from Oct. 15-Nov. 5, 2016.
Through five weeks of the 2017 season, Vaughn is tied for second in the GLIAC with five rushing touchdowns.
Meder, Shaheen Set Time In NFL Week 4
Former Ashland University All-Americans Jamie Meder and Adam Shaheen continued their 2017 National Football League seasons this past week.
Meder made his first start of the season at defensive tackle for the Cleveland Browns in a 31-7 home loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday (Oct. 1), recording three total tackles and a tackle for loss.
On Thursday (Sept. 28) Night Football, Shaheen played in a reserve role at tight end and on special teams in the Chicago Bears' 35-14 loss at the Green Bay Packers.
