Eagle Seniors On The Verge Of Program History

LINK – ASHLAND UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL PAGE

Ashland University's football program has won 485 games since it began in 1920.

Nearly a century's worth of senior classes have come and gone throughout the history of Eagle football. With a win on Saturday (Oct. 28) at noon at Wayne State, the 2017 Ashland senior class will have the most victories of any in program history.

The 2015 senior class won 34 games over a four-year period, going 34-9 (.791) in that span. With three regular-season games and potential postseason contests to go in 2017, this senior class is at 34-6 (.850).

What follows are the top four-year periods in Ashland football history in terms of total wins:

Ashland Offense Humming Of Late

The Eagles have scored at least 38 points in four consecutive games (38, 38, 48 and 38). That is Ashland's longest such streak since doing so in four straight contests from Oct. 17-Nov. 7, 2015 (52, 41, 45 and 40).

If the Eagles score at least 38 points at the Warriors on Saturday, it will be the first time in program history Ashland has scored that many points five games in a row.

Defense Continues At Impressive Pace

Ashland is second in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and eighth in NCAA Division II in scoring defense at 12.6 points allowed per game.

The Eagles haven't given up more than 26 points in any game in 2017. The last time Ashland went an entire season without allowing 26 points in a game was 2005.

Updating The Eagle Record Book

Senior kicker Aidan Simenc has scored 268 career points, third on Ashland's all-time list and two away from tying Anthony Taylor (270) for second place…With 13½ tackles for loss this season, junior defensive end James Prater Jr. is eighth on Ashland's single-season list. The AU record is 18, set by Allen Lattimore in 2004…Ashland has won 64 games this decade, four shy of the single-decade program record of 68 in the 1990s – with the rest of 2017 and all of 2018 and 2019 to go.
