Ashland College/University has been playing football since 1920.
In that time, there have been just three teams to win at least 10 games in a season. The 2017 Eagles will look to become the fourth on Senior Day, Saturday (Nov. 11) at 1 p.m. at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field vs. Saginaw Valley State (5-5, 3-5).
Ashland has won at least a share of the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship, and will claim it outright with a victory over the Cardinals. The team would join some pretty elite company where the history of Eagle football is concerned, as well.
- The 1972 Ashland College team was the first to hit double-digits in wins, going 11-0, finishing fourth in the NCAA College Division poll and outscoring opponents by a margin of 354-62. Included in that season was the program's 200th victory, 14-0 at Waynesburg on Nov. 4. The Eagles' 30 interceptions on defense is a team record which still stands.
- Ashland's 2012 squad finished 11-1 after winning its first 11 in a row, and ended the season ranked No. 9 in NCAA Division II. Those Eagles set new team standards for points (490) and total offense yards (5,843), and won the GLIAC championship. That season also featured the lowest-scoring game in program history – Ashland 7, Wayne State 0, on Sept. 7.
- The 2015 Eagle team ran off 10 straight wins to begin the year before finishing 10-1 and with a share of the GLIAC title. On both Nov. 9 and 16, Ashland achieved its highest-ever ranking in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) poll at No. 3, and ended the year at No. 10.
2007 Eagles To Be Honored On Saturday
Prior to Saturday's game, the 2007 Eagle football team will be recognized.
The 2007 Ashland team earned the program's third NCAA Division II postseason berth, and the first for head coach Lee Owens at Ashland. AU ended the year at 8-2 and ranked No. 22 in the country, and averaged a whopping 44.0 points per game. Running back Dawon Harvey set a school record with 1,966 all-purpose yards, fellow running back Jon Schroeder scored a school-record 17 rushing touchdowns, and in the 63-42 win at home vs. Wayne State on Nov. 3, the Eagles racked up a school-record 721 yards of total offense.

Ashland's Active Division II Career Leaders
Entering Week 11, the following Eagles are among NCAA Division II's top 10 active career leaders:
- Senior quarterback Travis Tarnowski is first in touchdown passes (103), passing yards (10,621) and total offense yards (10,948).
- Senior kicker Aidan Simenc is third in field-goal percentage (85.4).
- Simenc is sixth in extra points made (167).
- Simenc is tied for eighth in field goals made (41).
- Simenc is 10th in points (290).
Former Eagles Meder, Shaheen Back In Action
Following a bye week, former Ashland University All-Americans Jamie Meder and Adam Shaheen will be back in action for their respective National Football League teams in Week 10 on Sunday (Nov. 12) at 1 p.m.
Meder, a defensive tackle, and the Cleveland Browns will play at the Detroit Lions, while Shaheen, a tight end, and the Chicago Bears will be at home vs. the Green Bay Packers.
