It wouldn't be a Monday afternoon unless Ashland University's football team moved up one spot in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches' Top 25 poll.
Such was the case again with the Nov. 13 release of the AFCA poll, as the Eagles finished the regular season ranked No. 9 in the country. It is the fourth consecutive week Ashland has moved up one position in the poll, and it is the highest ranking achieved in that poll since being slotted at No. 9 on Oct. 24, 2016.
Ashland enters the NCAA Division II postseason with 10 consecutive wins, is 10-1 overall and won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship outright. The Eagles will play No. 13-ranked Northwest Missouri State (9-2) in a Super Region Three quarterfinal at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field on Saturday (Nov. 18) at noon.
This is Ashland's seventh D-II playoff appearance, along with 1986, 1997, 2007-08, 2012 and 2015.
Since the inception of the AFCA poll in 2000, the Eagles have been ranked 67 times. In 2016, Ashland went the entire season in the Top 25 for the first time. The Eagles are 43-16 (.729) all-time as an AFCA Top 25 team.
