Ten Eagles Named To NFF Hampshire Honor Society

As announced by the National Football Foundation on Wednesday (April 11) morning, 10 Ashland University football players are members of the 2018 NFF Hampshire Honor Society.

Seniors John Conner (right tackle), Dominic Giunta (center), Michael Griffin (cornerback), Anthony Grundy (guard), Harrison Hoppel (defensive tackle), Matt Murphy (left guard), Aidan Simenc (kicker), Austin Utter (defensive end), Justin Wazbinski (defensive tackle) and Matthew Wilcox (wide receiver) all landed the honor on Wednesday.

Nominated by their respective schools, members of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society must have:

  • Completed their final year of playing eligibility in 2017;
  • Graduated players, who have remaining eligibility but will not return to collegiate play (e.g. declared for NFL Draft or retired from football), may also be nominated.
  • Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and
  • Met all NCAA- or NAIA-mandated progress toward degree requirements.

Ashland's players are part of an all-time high 1,251 players from a record-tying 302 schools who qualified for membership in the society's 12th year. AU is one of 18 schools across the country to have double-digit honorees, along with Brown, Butler, Central (Iowa), Dartmouth, Hobart (N.Y.), Johns Hopkins (Md.), Kalamazoo (Mich.), Macalester (Minn.), Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.), Redlands (Calif.), Rose-Hulman (Ind.), St. Thomas (Minn.), Wartburg (Iowa), Washington & Jefferson (Pa.), Washington U. in St. Louis (Mo.) and Yale.
