A big day for one of Ashland University's football team's defensive leaders has resulted in one last 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference weekly award.

Eagle junior safety Nick Powers is the GLIAC Week 11 Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday (Nov. 12) morning. In a 41-7 win over Northern Michigan on Saturday (Nov. 10) at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field, Powers recorded two interceptions, a fumble recovery, five total tackles and a pass breakup.

In 2018, Powers finished with a team-high three interceptions, was fifth on the team with 44 total tackles (22 solo), and added two tackles for loss and a sack.

This is Powers' first GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honor. Three Ashland players garnered a GLIAC weekly award this season – sophomore kicker Satchel Denton in Week 3 (special teams), junior stud Tristan Reichelderfer in Week 9 (defense), and Powers.
