Ashland University senior defensive end James Prater Jr. and junior inside linebacker Clay Shreve each garnered All-Super Region 3 honors from the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association on Friday (Nov. 30) afternoon.

Prater Jr. is a first-team defense selection in the super region. This past season, he was second in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in sacks (9½) and tied for third in tackles for loss (15), and finished runner-up on the team with 65 total tackles (27 solo). He also broke up four passes.

This continues an awards-filled offseason for Prater Jr., who also has been named GLIAC Defensive Lineman of the Year and first-team All-GLIAC. He also finished fifth in the finals of the vote for the Gene Upshaw Award, the Division II Senior Lineman of the Year.

Shreve landed second-team defense honors from the D2CCA. Also a first-team All-GLIAC pick this season, Shreve led Ashland with 76 total tackles (35 solo), while adding six sacks, 6½ tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.

In 2018, Ashland's football team finished 6-4 overall and 6-2 in the GLIAC. All four of the Eagles' losses were to Top 25 teams by a total of 21 points.
