Ashland University senior defensive end James Prater Jr. is a 2018 All-America thrice over.

Prater Jr.'s latest postseason award comes from D2Football.com, who named him a second-team All-America. Also in the 2018 offseason, Prater Jr. landed second-team All-America honors from both the Associated Press and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

Earlier this offseason, Prater Jr. garnered first-team Super Region 3, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year and first-team All-GLIAC honors. He also finished fifth in the finals of the vote for the Gene Upshaw Award, the Division II Senior Lineman of the Year, and was a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award, presented to the nation's top small college defensive player.

In 2018, Prater Jr. was second in the GLIAC in sacks (9½) and tied for third in tackles for loss (15), and his 0.95 sacks per game tied him for 10th in NCAA Division II. He finished runner-up on Ashland's defense with 65 total tackles (27 solo), and also broke up four passes.

As a team last season, the Eagles finished 6-4 overall and 6-2 in the GLIAC. All four of AU's losses were to Top 25 teams by a total of 21 points.
