Jamie Meder is back in the National Football League.

Meder, a former Ashland University All-American defensive tackle, signed a futures contract with the Seattle Seahawks on Monday (Jan. 14). Meder did not play in the NFL in 2018 after being released by the Cleveland Browns at the end of training camp.

Meder played in the first 10 games of 2017 (started one) prior to being placed on injured reserve on Nov. 21, and made 13 total tackles (eight solo). In his first season as an NFL starter at defensive end in 2016, Meder finished with 48 total tackles (26 solo) and one sack. He earned Week 16 AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors following a blocked field goal which helped Cleveland to its only win of the season on Dec. 24 at home against the San Diego Chargers.

In his NFL career, Meder has 95 total tackles (51 solo), seven tackles for loss and two sacks.

Meder's collegiate career totals include 247 total tackles (96 solo), 35 tackles for loss, 14 sacks and three forced fumbles. He was a 2013 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-American, two-time Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year (2012-13), and the 2010 GLIAC Freshman of the Year.

Meder is one of nine former Eagles to play in an NFL regular-season game. Of those nine, only Walt Williams (93) and Mike Wright (81) played more NFL games than Meder's 43. Neither Williams nor Wright finished their collegiate careers at Ashland.

Under a futures deal, Meder officially will join the Seahawks when the new league year begins in March 13.
