SIZING UP THE COMPETITION – The cumulative 2018 winning percentage of Ashland's 10 2019 opponents was .570 (65-49 record). Half of those teams had winning records a season ago, and three – Ferris State, Grand Valley State and Indianapolis – played in the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Bulldogs were the 2018 D-II national runners-up.

"It's a good schedule. We're still looking and trying to get that 11th game," said Ashland head coach Lee Owens. "Right now, that's a big part of what we'd like to have happen. The league is always difficult. There's no question there will be two or three teams in the top 10 in the preseason. There's always going to be a handful of teams that have playoff experience."

THE ROAD TO 500 – Ashland College/University has been playing football since 1920, and has amassed 498 all-time victories. With two more wins, the Eagles will have 500 all-time. The other century marks reached over the years follow:

- 100th Win (Nov. 6, 1954): Ashland 13, Defiance 9         - 200th Win (Nov. 11, 1972): Ashland 55, Northwood 0

- 300th Win (Sept. 1, 1990): Ashland 45, Valparaiso 0   - 400th Win (Oct. 14, 2006): Ashland 24, N. Mich. 17

"That milestone this year, and our 100th year of football next year, it's a refresher of the great tradition of this program," Owens said.

RENEWING ACQUAINTANCES WITH THE GREYHOUNDS – The Ashland-Indianapolis rivalry goes back to 1954, when it was Ashland College vs. Indiana Central. The Eagles have a 21-12 all-time series lead with the Greyhounds, including a 12-4 mark in Ashland.

EAGLES TO THE HALL OF FAME (STADIUM) – In Week 2, Ashland will travel to Walsh. That means playing in the newly-renovated Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium beside the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

PANTHERS COME TO TOWN FOR FIRST TIME ON HOMECOMING – Ashland's 96th Homecoming game will be Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. vs. Davenport. This will be the first time the Panthers come to Ashland. All-time on Homecoming, Ashland is 65-25-5, and at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field, the Homecoming mark is 9-1.

AND BEFORE THEY GET TO THE FALL… The annual Purple and Gold spring game will be Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m. at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field. Ashland football's alumni golf outing is Friday, April 12 at Ashland Golf Club.
