DETROIT, Mich. – As part of the 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Football Media Day, Ashland University's football team is picked to finish second in the 2019 GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, as released on Monday (Aug. 5) morning.

The Eagles received 55 voting points in the preseason poll. Ferris State is chosen to finish first with 64 voting points and eight first-place votes, and Grand Valley State is third with 51 voting points and one first-place vote.

Ashland is coming off a 2018 season in which it went 6-4 overall and 6-2 in the GLIAC, with all four defeats coming at the hands of nationally-ranked teams by a total of 21 points. The Eagles return seven starters each on offense and defense, and a total of nine All-GLIAC players from a year ago.

With two more victories, Ashland's football program, which started in 1920, will have 500 wins all-time.

Since 2012, the Eagles have won three GLIAC championships (2012, 2015 and 2017) - tied for the most in the league in that span (Ferris State).

Ashland's 2019 season will open up on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field vs. Indianapolis.
