Armstrong Cable's annual Avenge Hunger campaign is coming to Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field for the first two Ashland University home football games of the 2019 season.
At the Eagle season opener on Thursday (Sept. 5) at 7 p.m. vs. Indianapolis, and the Sept. 21 home game at 7 p.m. vs. Ferris State, Armstrong will collect non-perishable canned food items for Associated Charities. Fans who do not have a ticket can bring food items for a general admission ticket to that game (one can / general admission ticket per person), and fans who already have purchased tickets also are encouraged to bring food items, as well.
September is Hunger Action Month, a national focus on helping to fight hunger and food insecurity. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) defines food insecurity as a lack of consistent access to food for an active, healthy life.
Armstrong Cable, the game sponsor for Thursday night's game vs. the Greyhounds, annually supports Hunter Action Month with its Breaking Bread initiative – a program designed to feed the hungry in the communities Armstrong lives in, works in and provides service.
Ashland's football team, ranked No. 23 in NCAA Division II, will play host to the Greyhounds, ranked No. 16, in the 2019 opener for both teams on Thursday night. It is one of only two games on the opening weekend of D-II play in which both teams are in the top 25 of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) preseason poll.
