THE TURNING POINT: Ashland led 49-41 with 12:29 to go in the second half before Southern Indiana went on a 16-0 run.
STAT OF THE GAME: Eagle junior center Teddy Metzen has started the season with 26 points and nine rebounds, while shooting 58.8 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free-throw line.
On Saturday (Nov. 12) night, Ashland University's men's basketball team defeated Indianapolis thanks to a second-half run.
On Sunday (Nov. 13) afternoon, the Eagles (1-1) fell victim to the same thing, losing 74-62 to Southern Indiana (2-0) in the second and final day of the Indianapolis Tournament.
Despite the loss, Ashland has won 19 of its last 30 road/neutral-site games since the start of the 2014-15 season.
An early 9-9 tie turned into an 18-12 Ashland advantage following a 3-point field goal by senior forward Torin Wetzel. The Eagles' lead was 25-24 prior to running off six straight points, and they took a 36-27 lead into the halftime break.
Ashland boasted a 49-41 lead at the 12:29 mark of the second half before Southern Indiana scored 16 consecutive points for an eight-point advantage of its own. The Eagles got back to within four points at 59-55 with 4:17 to play, but could get no closer.
In his second game as an Eagle, sophomore point guard Ben Haraway paced the offense with 15 points. Junior center Teddy Metzen added 11 points and six rebounds, and senior guard Adrian Cook chipped in with 10 points.
Ashland shot 45.3 percent from the field, but USI nailed 23-of-25 from the free-throw line.
