Davis Wins Fourth GLIAC Player of the Week Award This Season

Ashland University fifth-year senior forward Wendell Davis has been named the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week for the second straight week and fourth time in six weeks this season the league office announced on Wednesday (Dec. 20).

It is also the 11th conference weekly award for Davis, who last week climbed into No. 5 on Ashland's all-time scoring list with 1,588 points.

Davis helped lead the Eagles to a pair of wins last week to push them to a 9-3 record heading into Christmas break. He averaged 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists while shooting 52 percent (14-for-27) from the floor and 44 percent (8-for-18) from the 3-point line.

The 6-foot-6 forward had 14 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals in AU's 58-54 victory at Tiffin on Saturday. He followed that up with 26 points, eight rebounds and two assists on Monday in a 76-40 win over West Virginia Wesleyan. Davis hit a career-high six 3-pointers in that game and was part of Ashland's best defensive effort in 44 years.

Davis second in the GLIAC in scoring (21.4), third in assists (4.0), seventh in rebounds (7.8), first in 3-pointers (37), third in 3-point percentage (.481) and eighth in field goal percentage (.546).

The Eagles are in the midst of a 10-day layoff and will resume regular season play on Dec. 30 with a 3 p.m. tip-off against Thiel at Kates Gymnasium.
