Davis Wins Third Straight GLIAC South Weekly Honor

Ashland University redshirt-senior forward Wendell Davis was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday (Jan. 8).

Davis has now won the award three straight times and five times in seven weeks this season. This was his 12th career GLIAC weekly award.

The 6-foot-6 Reynoldsburg, Ohio native averaged 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists over three games – all AU wins – since Dec. 30.

Davis scored 23 points – on just seven field goal attempts – to go with six rebounds and six assists in an 82-53 win over Thiel on Dec. 30.

Last Thursday, Davis had 26 points, 11 rebounds and four assists to help the Eagles beat Michigan Tech, 73-62. He had 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in Ashland's 55-54 win over Northern Michigan on Saturday. It was the first time since 1999 the Eagles swept the Huskies and Wildcats in the Upper Peninsula.

Davis ranks second in the GLIAC in scoring (21.5), seventh in rebounding (7.2), third in assists (4.2), ninth in field goal percentage (51.9), fifth in 3-point percentage (43.4), first in 3-pointers made (45) and ninth in free throw percentage (80.8).

The Eagles, tied for first place atop the GLIAC South, play host to Grand Valley State (8-7, 3-4 GLIAC) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 11) at Kates Gymnasium.
