Davis Wins 13th Career GLIAC Player of the Week Award

Ashland University fifth-year senior forward Wendell Davis was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division Player of the Week for the fourth straight time, sixth time in eight weeks this season and 13th time in his career the league office announced on Monday (Jan. 15).

Davis has helped lead the Eagles (14-3, 7-2 GLIAC) on a nine-game winning streak and the top of the GLIAC South standings.

In a pair of home wins last week, Davis averaged 23 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 58 percent (15-for-26) from the floor, 92 percent (11-for-12) from the line and 42 percent (5-for-12) from 3-point range.

Davis scored 22 points on 7-for-10 shooting to go with seven rebounds and two assists in an 89-80 win over Grand Valley State last Thursday. He scored 13 points in the second half, including a clutch 3-pointer that gave AU an 83-80 lead with 34 seconds left.

In a 78-66 win over Purdue Northwest, Davis had 24 points, four rebounds and three assists. 

He has scored in double figures in 16 of 17 games this season and ranks second in the GLIAC in scoring (21.7). Davis also ranks seventh in rebounding (7.0), third in assists (4.0), sixth in field goal percentage (52.5), fifth in 3-point percentage (43.2), sixth in free throw accuracy (82.4) and first in 3-pointers made (51).
