Ashland University senior forward Wendell Davis has been selected to the watch list for the Bevo Francis Award, which is presented to the player who has had the finest overall season within small college basketball, which includes NCAA Division II & III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA.

Davis is one of 100 players on the watch list, which was announced on Monday (Jan. 15). The list will narrow to 50 players on Feb. 15.

Davis, who missed all of last season with an injury, has returned this year as one of the top players in the country. A preseason All-American, the 6-foot-6 Reynoldsburg, Ohio native is averaging 21.7 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game – all of which rank in the top seven in the GLIAC.

Davis has also been efficient in all shooting aspects of his game, ranking sixth in the GLIAC in field goal percentage (52.5), fifth in 3-point percentage (43.2) and sixth in free throw percentage (82.4). He leads the GLIAC in 3-pointers made (51).

He has been named the GLIAC South Player of the Week six out of eight times this season and he has won the award 13 times in his career. Davis recently climbed to fourth on AU's all-time scoring list and has an even 1,700 points in his career.

Just three other GLIAC players were named to the Bevo Francis Award watch list, including Lake Superior State's Akaemji Williams, Michigan Tech's Kyle Monroe and Ferris State's Zach Hankins and Drew Cushingberry.

The Eagles (14-3, 7-2 GLIAC) have won nine straight games, heading into a two-game road trip that starts Thursday (Jan. 18) at Saginaw Valley State.
