Davis Selected GLIAC South Player of the Week For 14th Time

Ashland University senior forward Wendell Davis has been tapped as the GLIAC South Player of the Week for the seventh time this season the league office announced on Monday (Jan. 30) morning.

Davis has won 70 percent of the GLIAC South weekly honors this season and now has 14 conference weekly awards in his career.

The 6-foot-6 fifth-year senior scored 27 points on just nine field goal attempts in Ashland's 87-65 win over Tiffin on Saturday at Kates Gymnasium. Davis also had five assists and collected four rebounds. He shot 7-for-9 from the field, 5-for-5 from 3-point range and knocked down 8-of-9 free throws.

He climbed into third on Ashland's all-time scoring list and now has 1,751 career points. On Saturday, he passed Bill Higgins (1974) and is just 46 points behind Larry Aulger for second on the list.

Davis ranks second in the GLIAC in scoring (21.0), seventh in rebounding (6.7) and fourth in assists (3.8). He also ranks in the top seven in all three shooting accuracy categories and leads the GLIAC in 3-pointers made (59).

The Eagles (15-5, 8-4 GLIAC) will head to Wayne State on Thursday (Feb. 1) night for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. Ashland holds a one-game lead over the Warriors for first place in the GLIAC South.
