Davis Named To D2CCA All-Region Team For Third Time

Ashland University fifth-year senior forward Wendell Davis was named to the D2CCA All-Midwest Region second team the organization announced on Monday (March 12) morning.

He is the first player in program history to be named to the all-region team three times. Davis was a second team D2CCA and NABC all-region choice as a sophomore in 2015, then was a second team selection as a junior in 2016. Davis missed all of last season due to injury, but came back to have one of the best campaigns in Ashland's history.

He averaged 20.3 points, six rebounds and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 53 percent (202-for-381) from the floor, 45 percent (83-for-185) from 3-point range and 80.1 percent (121-for-151) from the line.

Davis ranks in the top 11 in the GLIAC in all of those statistical categories and is currently second in the GLIAC in scoring and 3-pointers made. He was named the GLIAC South Player of the Week in eight of the 14 weeks on the year and won 15 weekly awards in his career.

Davis ranks second on Ashland's all-time scoring list with 1,939 points and is third in career rebounds with 769. He is one of just two Ashland players with three seasons of at least 500 points.

Earlier this postseason, Davis became Ashland's only three-time All-GLIAC first team selection. He is also currently among the last 50 players on the watch list for the Bevo Francis Award, given to the top player in small college basketball.

The Eagles finished the year with a 20-10 mark, advancing to the GLIAC Tournament semifinals for the third straight season.
