The Ashland University men's basketball program added a pair of premier, All-Ohio high school players to its program this week as guards Ethan Conley (Englewood, Ohio/Franklin Monroe) and Brandon Haraway (Norwalk, Ohio/Norwalk) signed their letters of intent during the NCAA's signing period.
Both players will join the Eagles for the 2019-20 school year.
"I am extremely excited to add these two young men to our basketball family," said Ashland University head coach John Ellenwood. "Ethan and Brandon are going to be outstanding additions to our team."
Conley comes into the AU program as one of the top players in the state, having already earned first team All-Ohio honors as a junior. He was also his conference's player of the year and was named first team all-district, averaging 22 points and seven rebounds per game.
In his career, the 6-foot-5 Conley already has three all-conference distinctions and two all-district selections. He has scored 1,316 points and collected 479 rebounds in his career.
Conley, the son of Rebecca and Javan, will major in business at Ashland.
Ellenwood on Ethan Conley: "Ethan is a dynamic talent that we are very excited to have wearing purple and gold. Hailing from Franklin Monroe High School, under the tutelage of Coach Troy Myers, Ethan will graduate as one of the top players in school history. He has a complete skill set, but his competitive edge is what we were drawn to the very first time we saw him play. He comes from an outstanding basketball family that has guided him with faith and a work ethic that will help him to be very successful here at Ashland."
Haraway comes to the Eagles as a highly-accomplished prep athlete at Norwalk High School. The brother of current AU senior guard, Ben Haraway, Brandon was a first team all-conference and all-district selection as a junior when he averaged 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals per game. The 6-foot-2 Haraway also earned third team All-Ohio honors. He is also an all-conference wide receiver for the Truckers.
Haraway is already taking courses at BGSU-Firelands and plans to major in nursing at Ashland University. He is the son of Kisha and Ben Haraway Sr.
Ellenwood on Brandon Haraway: "Brandon is an explosive athlete that can score at all three levels. He has excellent ball handling skills, great court vision and can guard multiple positions. Coach Steve Gray and his coaching staff at Norwalk High School have prepared him well for college. His wonderful family is one that Eagle fans already know well and we are excited to keep the Haraway tradition here at Ashland."
The Eagles are off to a 3-0 start this season and will return to the Kates Gymnasium floor on Wednesday (Nov. 21) at 4 p.m. to play Seton Hill.
