Thompson Earns GLIAC South Player of the Week Honor

Ashland University redshirt-sophomore wing Aaron Thompson was named the GLIAC South Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday (Dec. 3) afternoon.

Thompson posted a pair of double-doubles last week as the Eagles went 2-0 against Lake Superior State and reigning national champion Ferris State at Kates Gymnasium.

He averaged 19.5 points, 12 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 1.5 assists and one block in the two games. He also shot 76.2 percent (16-for-21) from the field and 6-for-7 (85.7 percent) from the line while also making his only 3-point attempt.

It is Thompson's first-ever GLIAC weekly honor.

The Toledo, Ohio native scored a career-high 27 points on 10-for-12 shooting in AU's 82-68 win over Lake Superior State on Thursday (Nov. 29) night. He also corralled 10 rebounds and had two steals. Seventeen of his 27 points came in the second half as the Eagles closed out the victory.

On Saturday against Ferris, Thompson finished with 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting, 14 rebounds, three steals and two assists.

The 6-foot-3 guard leads the GLIAC in rebounding at 10.5 per game – nearly three more than any other player. He is also shooting 62.2 percent from the field, which ranks sixth in the conference.

The Eagles (6-0, 2-0 GLIAC) are off to their best start since 2015-16 and will travel to Grand Valley State on Thursday (Dec. 6) for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
