Eagles In Top 10 For Third Straight Week

The Ashland University men's basketball team was ranked No. 8 in the NABC Division II coaches' poll released on Tuesday (Jan. 15) afternoon, marking its third straight week in the top 10.

The Eagles (14-1, 7-1 GLIAC), who were ranked No. 6 last week, suffered their first defeat of the season last Thursday at Parkside, but bounced back with a trouncing of Purdue Northwest, 81-57, on Saturday.

This is the fifth straight poll the Eagles have been ranked by the NABC, starting at No. 19 on Dec. 4. They climbed to No. 16, No. 10 and No. 6 in the following three releases, respectively.

Ashland won the first 13 games of its season, which was the second-best undefeated start in program history. The only longer winning streak to start the season was 15 in 1990-91.

The Eagles hold a one-game lead over Davenport (13-2, 6-2 GLIAC) in the GLIAC standings. The Panthers are receiving votes outside the top 25 as the only other conference school in the poll.

The Eagles return to Kates Gymnasium this week for games against Saginaw Valley (Thursday 7:30 p.m.) and Northwood (Saturday, 3 p.m.).
