Haraway Wins GLIAC South Player of the Week Honor

Ashland University fifth-year senior guard Ben Haraway was named the GLIAC South Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday (Jan. 21) afternoon.

It is the first conference weekly award in Haraway's career. He is the third Eagle to win the award this season after redshirt-sophomore guard Aaron Thompson and junior guard Rodrick Caldwell won it back-to-back on Dec. 3 and 10, respectively.

Haraway averaged 15 points, six rebounds and four assists in No. 8 Ashland's two wins last week against Saginaw Valley and Northwood. He also committed just one turnover in 75 minutes for an 8-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

The Norwalk, Ohio native scored 13 points and had six rebounds and four assists last Thursday as Ashland toppled the Cardinals, 83-61. He was 5-for-10 from the field, including 2-for-4 from 3-point range.

In Saturday's 75-60 win over Northwood, Haraway scored 17 points to go with six rebounds, four assists and a block and steal. He was 6-for-7 from the free throw line and 5-for-13 from the floor.

For the season, Haraway is Ashland's third-leading scorer with 13.6 points per game, while averaging 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists. He is shooting 48 percent overall and 44.1 percent from long range. Haraway has scored in double figures in every game since Nov. 21.

The Eagles (15-1, 9-1 GLIAC) will play Ohio-Chillicothe on Tuesday (Jan. 22) at 6 p.m. at Kates Gymnasium. GLIAC play resumes on Saturday (Jan. 26) at Wayne State.
