Eagles No. 5 in Midwest Region Rankings

The Ashland University men's basketball team dropped one spot to No. 5 in the second release of the NCAA Division II Midwest Region rankings, which came out Wednesday (Feb. 27) afternoon.

The top eight teams in the region, including the GLIAC, GLVC and G-MAC Tournament champions, will earn bids to the NCAA Tournament. The field will be announced March 10 at 10:30 p.m.

The Eagles (22-5, 14-5 GLIAC) are coming off a split weekend in which they beat Northwood and fell at the buzzer at Saginaw Valley.

Ashland is looking to qualify for its first NCAA Tournament since 2016 and just its second since 1991. The Eagles have won 20 games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons.

Ferris State (No. 7) and Northern Michigan (No. 9) join Ashland as the GLIAC representatives in the Midwest Region rankings.

The Eagles are locked into the No. 2 seed in the GLIAC Tournament and will be at home for the quarterfinal on March 5 at 7:30 p.m. Davenport is the No. 1 seed.

AU will close the regular season on Thursday (Feb. 28) at 7:30 p.m. with Senior Night against Wayne State.
