Men's Golf Fifth After First Day of Regional Play

The Ashland University men's golf team was tied for fifth place after the first day of play (Sept. 25) at the NCAA regional tournament.  The tournament is being hosted by Grand Valley State and is being played at Hawkshead Golf Course in South Haven, Mich.

Indianapolis shot 290 to take the lead after the first day.  Northwood (296) was second and Northern Kentucky and Drury were tied for third. NKU and Drury shot 299. The field includes 21 teams.

Ashland and Bellarmine shot 301 and were tied for fifth.

David Frank of Indianapolis was the first-day leader in the individual standings.  He shot 67.  Saginaw Valley State's Wyatt Drost was second. He shot 69.  AU's Jay Overy (Grafton, Ohio/Midview) was among eight players tied for fourth place. Overy shot 72.

The tournament will continue on Monday (Sept. 26).
