Eagles Finish in a Tie for Fifth in Ashland Invitational

ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ashland University men's golf team hosted the Ashland Invitational at the Country Club of Ashland over the weekend.

After finishing the first round in third place, the Eagles carded a 312 on Sunday (April 22) afternoon in the second round. AU finished the tournament in a tie for fifth place with a team total of 613. The Eagles were one of just four teams that did not best their first round score.

Junior Brendan Jenkins (Dublin, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) and senior Jay Overy (Grafton, Ohio/Midview) each shot a 4-over 76 on Sunday as the Eagles' low scorers on the day. Jenkins was AU's best top placer in the tournament, finishing in a tie for 17th (78-76-154).

Findlay was the team winner, firing a 598. Michael Schmitmeyer was the individual medalist, shooting an even-par 144 (71-73) for the tournament.

Senior Steven Bednar (Munroe Falls, Ohio/Stow) shot a 78 on Sunday for a two-day total of 155. Junior Mark Scott (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) and freshman Jake Houston (Lexington, Ohio) rounded out the AU scorers.

The Eagles return to action on Friday and Saturday (April 27-28) at the GLIAC Preview in Elyria, Ohio. Following are the team scores at the Ashland Invitational.
