In its first competition of the 2017 spring season, Ashland University men's golf placed 15th with a total score of 621 (plus-45) at the Saginaw Valley State University Spring Invitational on Sunday (March 19).

The Eagles improved on their Day 1 team score of 315 by nine strokes on Day 2, shooting a 306. However, that was not enough for them to climb in the standings, and they ultimately fell from 14th.

Despite placing in the bottom half of the team standings, AU junior Chandler Walnsch shot a 1-over-par 73 on Day 2, finishing in a tie for 12th of 129 golfers with a 148 total score.

Redshirt junior Gabriel Reynolds also paced the Eagles at the invitational, slotting himself in a tie for 28th with a 152 two-day score. His Day 2 round of 70 (-2) tied him with five other golfers for the second best round at the invite.

Sophomore Austin Kondratick tied for 79th at 160, freshman Patrick Steffen tied for 86th with a 161 and sophomore Frank Steffen shot a 172, tying for 120th.

As a team, Ashland finished four strokes back of 14th-place Hillsdale and eight strokes ahead of Alderson Broaddus.

UP NEXT: The Eagles will head to the Andover Country Club in Lexington, Ky., for the GLIAC South Invitational on March 27-28.
