Ashland University Director of Athletics Al King announced on Tuesday (June 6) the hire of Logan Cooke as AU's head men's golf coach.

"It's always invigorating to see an energetic young coach get his or her start," King said. "Logan helped us several years ago as an assistant coach, and he was well-liked and respected by those he worked with. At that time, he told us his dream would be to one day be a college golf coach. He's going to have that opportunity now."

Said Cooke, "I'm really, really excited. I've been around golf my whole life. Being from just 20-30 minutes away, it's exciting. It's my program. It's going to be my own.

"The recruiting, I'm excited to try to get local players…and then branch out once they see how we are succeeding and improving."

In addition to his previous stint as an Ashland assistant coach, Cooke has worked at Millstone Hills Golf Club in his hometown, nearby New London, Ohio, for the last 10 years. Part of that work has been helping with the junior clinic for boys and girls.

Cooke is a graduate of the University of Findlay, where he played four years on the Oiler men's golf team.

Cooke takes the reigns of the Eagle men's golf program following the retirement of 13-year head coach Darrin Jones.

"Logan got a quality golf education at an excellent University of Findlay program," said King. "He's been around the game all his life. Logan will bring enthusiasm to every facet of the job – teaching, coaching, promotion. He takes over a program that Darrin Jones nurtured and expanded, and it's our hope that Logan can continue that process."

Cooke will take over an Ashland men's golf program which is experienced at the top of the weekly leaderboards, led by senior Chandler Walnsch and junior Austin Kondratick.

"Practice and patience," Cooke said. "These guys are going to have to put in the work. Every single guy on the team has a lot of talent. It's just that patience of waiting for them to grow and get comfortable. Once they put in the time, do their work, they're going to see results right away."
