Eagles End Watrous Day 1 In Ninth Place

Ashland University's men's golf team is in ninth place in the 16-team field after Day 1 of the Al Watrous Intercollegiate on Saturday (Sept. 9) in Bay City, Mich.

The Eagles ended the day with a team score of 299, 16 shots behind leader Saginaw Valley State (283). Grand Valley State (284) and the other SVSU team (288) are right behind in second and third place, respectively.

Junior Austin Kondratick led the Ashland effort on Saturday with an even-par round of 72. Both senior Chandler Walnsch and junior Cole Smith fired identical 75s, while the Eagle team day was rounded out by freshman Ben Jones (77) and sophomore Patrick Steffen (78). 

Playing as individuals were juniors Tyler Starr (81) and Frank Steffen (88).
