Ashland University's men's golf team posted an improved team score of 302 on Sunday (Sept. 17) to finish ninth in the 11-team Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Invitational at HawksHead Links in South Haven, Mich.
The Eagles finished the weekend at 307-302—609. Wayne State earned the team title at 285-284—569, followed by Grand Valley State (285-296—581) and Saginaw Valley State (291-293—584).
Topping the Ashland leaderboard was junior Austin Kondratick, whose 69-77—146 was good for a tie for 13th individually. He has paced the Eagles in all three fall tournaments so far in 2017.
Freshman Ben Jones was tied for 40th (77-76—153), while senior Chandler Walnsch was tied for 44th (78-76—154). Both junior Cole Smith (52nd, 84-74—158) and sophomore Patrick Steffen (tied for 53rd, 83-76—159) found better footing during Sunday's round.
Juniors Tyler Starr (tied for 57th, 80-81—161) and Frank Steffen (64th, 78-89—167) played as individuals.
