In what had to be less-than-ideal weather conditions on Saturday (Sept. 8) at Red Hawk Run Golf Course in Findlay, Ohio, Ashland University's men's golf team was equal to the task in placing third at the 14-team Ohio Cup.

Playing 36 holes in a day for the second time in four days, the Eagle men finished Saturday at 307-296—603. Northwestern Ohio was the winner at 302-284—586, followed by the host Oilers (300-290—590) and AU.

Junior Patrick Steffen was the Ashland pacesetter, ending in a tie for sixth place at 72-75—147. Steffen finished the day with nine birdies.

Following right behind was senior Austin Kondratick, whose tied-for-11th showing was highlighted by a second-round 69, including five birdies. Sophomore Ben Jones placed in a tie for 14th at 78-72—150.

Rounding out the AU team play were senior Cole Smith (tied for 41st, 78-80—158) and redshirt freshman Luke Tanner (tied for 47th, 79-81—160). Playing as individuals were sophomores Hunter Lowder (tied for 32nd, 83-72—155) and Ben Koshmider (tied for 41st, 79-79—158).

The Eagle men won't return to the links until Sept. 24-25 at the Findlay Fall Invitational at Findlay Country Club.
