After starting 2018-19 with a pair of one-day, 36-hole events, Ashland University's men's golf team began the two-day, 54-hole Doc Spragg Fall Invitational on Monday (Sept. 24) at Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio.

Thanks in large part to the efforts of sophomore Ben Jones, senior Austin Kondratick and junior Patrick Steffen, the Eagle men finished in a tie for sixth place in the impressive 18-team field after Tuesday's (Sept. 25) round was rained out. Ashland played the first 36 holes on Monday at 297-295—592. Indianapolis (288-286—574) and Grand Valley State (291-283—574) tied for first place, followed by Wayne State (293-285—578) and Missouri-St. Louis (295-288—583).

Jones placed in a tie for fifth individually, going 72-71—143 for a 1-under-par outing which included eight birdies. In six rounds so far this fall, Jones is sporting an average of 72.7, and five of those rounds have been either 71 or 72.

Kondratick finished in tie for 21st at 3-over-par 76-71—147, and his highlight on Monday was five consecutive birdies on holes No. 11-15 in the second round. He finished the second round with eight birdies, and the day with nine.

Steffen finished tied for 29th (73-75—148), and his day included an eagle on hole No. 1 in round No. 1. Steffen finished the day with six birdies, as well.

Senior Cole Smith was tied for 58th (76-78—154), while redshirt freshman Luke Tanner was tied for 74th (77-81—158).

Ashland's men will play at the HawksHead Links Invitational on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 29-30) in South Haven, Mich.
