Ashland University's men's golf team is playing like one that wants to keep competing into May.

After carding their best team score of 2018-19, a 291, to finish the Music City Invitational on Tuesday (April 2), the Eagles followed that with a 292 on Day 1 of the Greyhound Invitational on Sunday (April 7) in Noblesville, Ind. That score was good for a fourth-place slot in the 18-team field with 36 holes to play.

While Ashland wasn't in the first set of Midwest Region rankings released this past week, the Eagles' team score on Sunday was lower than region-ranked teams Grand Valley State (No. 1 in region, 295), Indianapolis (No. 3, 294), Wayne State (No. 4, 300), Findlay (No. 6, 293), Hillsdale (No. 7, 305), Maryville (No. 9, 302) and Drury (No. 10, 302).

The Eagles go into the second round of the invite 10 shots behind first-place Ferris State (282).

Individually, senior Austin Kondratick continued his strong spring with an opening-round 3-under-par 69. Kondratick is tied for fifth place following a back nine of 33, and five birdies overall on Sunday.

Junior Patrick Steffen followed Kondratick after the first 18 holes, slotted in a tie for 11th with an even-par 72. Steffen birdied five of his final 10 holes.

Senior Cole Smith got out of the gate strong on Sunday, playing at 1-under through 14 holes before finishing in a tie for 18th place at 1-over 73. Smith earned four birdies on the day.

In a tie for 65th place entering Round 2 is sophomore Ben Jones, who shot a 78 on Sunday, a round which included three birdies. Redshirt freshman Luke Tanner ended the day with an 82 and in a tie for 88th place.

Ferris State's Jack Weller and Missouri-St. Louis' Joel Sylven are tied at 5-under 67 as co-leaders through the first day.

The second day of the Greyhound Invitational will be played on Monday (April 8).
