Ashland Men Maintain Strong Play At Greyhound Invite

In the second round of the Greyhound Invitational in Noblesville, Ind., on Monday (April 8), Ashland University's men's golf team posted its third consecutive sub-300 round, good for sixth place in the 18-team regional tournament.

The Eagles are at 10-over-par 292-294—586, coming off a 291 in the final round of the Music City Invitational. Ferris State (282-282—564) continues to claim the top team spot, followed by Indianapolis (294-279—573), Bellarmine (290-287—577) and Findlay (293-286—579).

Ashland's biggest mover on the day was junior Patrick Steffen, whose second-round 69 has put him in a tie for third place individually at 72-69—141. Steffen, who played at 3-under on the final seven holes and had six birdies on the day, parlayed his second-best college round to a seven-way tie at 3-under, three shots behind Ferris State's Jack Weller (67-71—138) for first place.

The Eagles' second-best showing on Monday came from redshirt freshman Luke Tanner, who carded a career-low 1-over 73, including four birdies in a six-hole stretch on the back nine. Tanner moved up to a tie for 75th at 82-73—155.

Senior Austin Kondratick is in a tie for 17th place following his round of 76 on Day 2. Kondratick had two birdies in the first seven holes, and is 69-76—145 on the tournament. Sophomore Ben Jones is tied for 72nd (78-76—154), as he finished with two birdies on Monday.

Rounding out the Ashland contingent was senior Cole Smith, who had three birdies on Monday en route to a round of 79. Smith is tied for 64th (73-79—152).

The third and final day of the Greyhound Invitational will be played on Tuesday (April 9).
